Assif Ferrao
Early Career Engineering Geologist
What is your role, and how long have you been at MGT?
I work as an Early Career Engineering Geologist and I’ve been with the MGT Team for just over 2 months now.
What sparked your interest in this field?
I was always interested in Geology as the science of earth and the matter that we live on excites me.
Share a memorable project story.
Something that happened during my travel to Gruyere mine. I was travelling with Lyndell for a sea container set-up job at Gruyere. We were 30mins away from the camp and our tyre gave up on us. We were stranded for 3hrs as we didn’t have a working SAT phone on us. I finally used my iPhone to contact the ESS and we were rescued by the site team soon after. Not a project memory but an emergency situation I’ll never forget.
What is a quote that has stuck with you?
Geologists are the real-life superheroes of the Earth because only we know the planet like no one else.
What advice would you give to aspiring geologists?
The more field experience you get, the more you’ll understand that things don’t always go as per theories on paper.
Who in your team would you like to give a shout-out to?
I would definitely give Lyndell a shout-out as I was shadowing him for these past few weeks on site and absorbing the immense knowledge he possesses in this field.
